Why Was BLK Created in the First Place? For years young basketball players in Kerala have had limited platforms to showcase their talent. BLK aims to change that. The idea is simple yet powerful. Create a clear pathway from grassroots basketball to professional leagues. BLK is not just a tournament. It is designed as a stepping stone toward upcoming men’s and women’s professional basketball leagues in Kerala. By starting at the Under 14 and Under 19 levels the league focuses on long term growth rather than short term results. How Will Players Be Selected? Wondering how young players can be part of BLK? The journey begins with the One Minute to Hoop Skill Challenge. This scouting program will be conducted in multiple cities across Kerala to ensure wide access. BLK Technical Workshop Conducted at Regional Sports Centre
A technical workshop introducing Basketball League Kerala was held on December 5 2025 at the Regional Sports Centre Kochi. The event was organised by Starting Five and ABC FF in association with KBA. The workshop aimed to provide details about Basketball League Kerala which is a competitive league for under 14 and under 19 boys and girls. One Minute Hoop was introduced as the player selection method for the league. The organisers clarified that beginners are allowed to take part in the selection process. Player selection will begin with a primary screening through One Minute Hoop which includes basic basketball skill tests such as shooting dribbling and defence. Selected players will then undergo further evaluation and preparation before the final auction. The workshop was attended by presidents and secretaries from district basketball associations across Kerala adding official support to the initiative.
Kerala to Host New Structured Youth Basketball League
Basketball League Kerala (BLK) Press Meet Kochi, Nov. 24, 2025: Basketball League Kerala (BLK), a new youth development basketball league for Under-14 and Under-19 boys and girls, was officially launched on Sunday by Starting Five Sports Management Pvt. Ltd. in partnership with ABCFF League Pvt. Ltd. and the Kerala Basketball Association (KBA). The league, scheduled to be held in April 2026 at a centralised venue in Kerala, aims to serve as a foundation for the proposed men’s and women’s professional basketball leagues in the state. BLK Season-1 will feature 24 teams across four categories and include a total of 72 matches. Player selection for the inaugural season will begin with the ‘One Minute to Hoop’ Skill Challenge, to be conducted across eight to ten cities in Kerala. Registration for Kerala based players will open on December 10, 2025. Shortlisted players will advance to trials and a digital auction scheduled for February–March 2026. The Kerala Basketball Association will provide technical support, including finalising rules, appointing officials, and assisting in the identification of 48 qualified coaches for the league. A one day rules workshop will be held in the first week of December 2025. Speaking at the launch, P. Jacob, Managing Director of Starting Five Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., said the initiative aims to create a structured development pathway for young basketball players in Kerala. KBA President Jacob Joseph said the association looks forward to supporting the league across all districts, while ABCFF League CEO Anirudh Pole highlighted the league’s development-driven approach.
